Cyclismo Café is Honored as a Welcoming Star
Redwood City Together is thrilled to announce Cyclismo Café as our latest Welcoming Star! Jihan Bayyari, Co-Founder of Cyclismo Café, received the Welcoming Star Award alongside her family at the June 13th, 2022 City Council meeting, the first in-person Welcoming Star Award ceremony since the pandemic began.
Cyclismo Café is a 100% women owned, minority business serving locally-sourced food and coffee since 2016. What has made this Café special since its inception is its dedication to making Redwood City a more welcoming community for all. Community is at the heart of all that Cyclismo Café does. They frequently work with local organizations to host various philanthropic and community-building events, small business pop-ups, and opportunities for community members to ask questions of their representatives. In 2021, they hosted a Paint & Poetry night as part of Welcoming Week, a weeklong celebration that is part of a national movement to create more welcoming and inclusive communities across the country.
In the future, they aspire to run consistent class series in the evenings, such as sip and paint night, cooking classes, and a book club, in an effort to foster belonging and community spirit.
Be on the lookout for future community events at Cyclismo Café, and next time you’re out and about in downtown Redwood City, be sure to stop by!
Welcoming Redwood City is the welcoming initiative of Redwood City Together that builds empathy, understanding, and supportive action to bridge social divides such as race, class, and immigration status. To honor local pioneers and programs which build an inclusive community, Redwood City Together gives a quarterly Welcoming Stars award.
